Picked this up extremely cheap (I guess cheap since not entirely sure what it is or does). I did a little research but a cold arctic wind coming in made me chose to stack wood instead. Any help of comments would be greatly appreciated. I can tell the configuration in back moves with the rocking and the spindle seems to be able to wind the yard but..... Help?

It's called a spinning wheel rocking chair. some of the top section is missing. complete this chair sell's in the $600.00 to $ 800.00 Dollar range.

I think the top part u say is missing, is just missing from the photo maybe. Not sure how to add a better photo to the post. It has what appears to be a complete top section with a crescent shaped rotating thing that goes over the wheel part. I still am not certain what the back piece is supposed to do. The action of rocking seems to control the thin lattice piece attached on the back. I will see if I can't add more in the pic already posted. If there is some missing I would like to know.
      Thanks for the info :))

Thank you Vanskyock24. I'm with you. I've seen some odd pieces but this one is about the oddest and was a first for me. I could somehow see it sitting on a widows walk with the woman rocking, waiting and watching the sea for her man to return from the green blue beyond. Guess I was a little off track ha ha

Thanks crazy like, could you post anything more, like a picture. I was going to do some more research on it, but I have limited resources to refer to. I did notice there are a few screws that look as though they replaced the wood pegs originally used to hold the chair together and looking at the pieces, the chair was probably made by a carpenter or woodworker. The prices are hand cut, as is the scroll work decoration. I have tried to figure out just how the mechanism works, but I'm pretty clueless to the spinning wheel. I think I will have some of the people at the weaving arts place look and see if they can figure out how it drew the yarn up onto the top spindle. That part appears to be functional, even with the multiple lacquer coats that have been applied. I'm just glad no one put some modern finish on it since lacquer is so much easier to restore without damaging an item.
