This stunning piece was found at GW on today's rounds. A large burgundy lacquer ware metal plate or charger. The peacock design looks like it's created by inlaying pieces of metal and mother of pearl or abalone. It has a few nicks in the lacquer on the edge and some scratches, but all the design is intact. It's marked Metalware over Maruni with a Patent number under that. It does not say made in "occupied "Japan or even Japan like most of these pieces do. So may be it's even earlier than the forties. The back has two holes in the raised base so it was made to hang on the wall and not used as an actual plate. -Mike-
Very lovely ! and I love peacocks too !
Thank you Manikin :) It's the nicest thing from today's treasure hunt !
Hi mike, you have some lovely items, this is superb. May i ask whats GW?
Sure, ...It's just short hand for Goodwill ... lol . I use VOA for Volunteer's of America too. That's were all these things come from. I go to maybe 6 of my favorite places a day weather permitting. I think it's more fun hunting up great stuff in the thrifts. I try to stick to a five dollar budget but I've broken that rule more times than I care to count. -Mike-
