I think this is a real one. i bought it off a homeless person in my neighborhood for $50 yesterday. it looks as if it is solid gold, but i'm not sure that they made them solid. or even how to tell whether it's solid or a thick plate or something. this is a very unusual item of this type for me. just not my style, i guess, but interesting enough to purchase for $50.

Looks authentic - it would be gold-plated though, not solid. There should be a serial number on the bottom side (pretty sure I see it in the pix) - worth about 3 times what you paid.

thank you aghcollect. yes, there is a serial number in very fine etching at the bottom of the top side.

it must be a pretty thick gold plate on it, because it appears to be solid. do they make any which are solid? is there any way i can find out when this one was made?
