I'm not asking for appraisal. I am kindly wondering about this beautiful bear. I have recently taken on the job of clearing out a 100 year old ladies items. These were her personal own toys from a child. Led to believe it's a Stieff Growler Bear. Fully joined. Poor hand and foot in need of a hospital hehe.
wow this poor guy has had a hard life :-) so much it is difficult to be exact on maker , arms look as though they may have beeen reattached a Steiff would have has smooth joints with a round disk behind material so arm would move . I have a friend who used to repair antique bears and is also a bear artist and I would say it would take a lot to restore him before he deteriorates any more . What is the material he is made of ? It looks like a burlap any sign of having had mohair on it ? It is safe to say he is pre 1930 and most likely German but I have to say just to much is missing to give apositive ID which includes the way paws are stitched , the eyes how long his arms were . I hope he doesn't get thrown out and you find a expert to retstore him . I am sure there are great memories she had with him .
think he needs a great big bear hug
me to Vansky :-)
