Today's first find from the Cleveland GW is this 6" Chinese Foo Dog. It's a really intense turquoise color. The glaze puddles in spots and even creates the pupils in the eyes. They usually come in pairs, but this was all that I could find. This is the female as she has her pup under foot. The male has the world or a ball under his. There are so many images of these online. They are all quite similar until you look closely at the details. Some are are modern, some are vintage, and some are worth a lot ! This one had a red ink stamp that said "China" or a triangle mark on the bottom after seeing the ones online to compare it to. Nothing left of that now but a red stain . Not sure if it's retro vintage old or really old. -Mike-
Oh I bet AR will love this one
yes they re very very hard to date...major production in the 1950's and 1960's...I have relatives and friends who have them from that era. Been trying to get the large pair myself.
Be very very wary of fakes or recent Chinese ones, they look awful...
