This is a wonderful Art Noveau style piece. Hand painted with a classic water lily pattern in gold on a luster background. More than likely bought as a blank and painted with great skill. It's 5" long and 4 1/2" tall at the handle. The Limoges star mark was used by Coiffe Limoges Porcelain. This green mark with France on the bottom was used from 1891. -Mike-
Looks like a lotus flower to me. Very pretty!
You made me curious as to the difference Amber. It's mainly in the flower's center. water lilies lack the huge center that eventually turns into the lotus pod. Lotus leaves seem mostly round and above the water. While water lily leaves are broad or round and either float on but can grow above the water. So much for botany 101....lol
Huh, that is really interesting. So this guy has the big center but the wrong leaves??
I just know I'm going to confuse this in my head! :))
It's common to confuse them. I did.... This is a" water lotus lily" hybrid....lol
