My first motorcycle was a 1970 Taco 22 series III mini bike. The picture on the left was taken on a local dirt track near Wichita Falls, TX in 1971 I was 5. When I got the scoot, I was four and my folks had to take off the seat and put a piece of foam in its place, so I could reach the ground. I rode it up and down the alley till one of us ran out of gas.... Second pic is Buffy and Jody from Family Affair. We always called it a Bulltaco, but I don't think they are related. It sure did haul a$$.
Dealer info: STEEN’S TACO_22_logo, a penny-pinching, practical barrel of fun from its low initial cost to miserly miles-per-gallon operation and meager maintenance. The TACO_22_fits a husky 2.5 h.p. Tecumseh 4 cycle engine in it’s double-loop, cradle frame of heavy-wall, 1-inch tubing. A direct drive through the automatic clutch gives 6.5 pulling ratio to the 11 1/2-inch studded rear tire for 25-30 m.p.h speeds. Stopping power is delivered by a foot-operated friction brake. Curb weight is just 76 pounds, with a full 3/4-gal. Gas tank. The deluxe TACO_22_ is fitted with a hand-operated drum brake system. Price - $129.50
Don't have this one any longer (wish I did). Dad traded it on a bigger model.
Wow - had to look this one up cuz I never heard of them. - They are actually making complete kits now so you can build a brand new one.
You were a big boy when you were four! My feet wouldn't even reach the pedals on my tiny red triclyle. Kidding aside, that is a neat machine. The "Pickers" would go nuts over that.
My first motorcycle, too!
still have mine, lol, but has swing arm and springs for rear end
I've seen the new scooters (kits) for sale here and there. Adults (big kids) race them now. There's a big following in CA for these. I would want an original. Two sold on ebay that I saw, one without the motor $1400.00 One with motor (un-restored) $2200.00
Thanks for all the luv
