I bought this at a garage sale and don't know anything about it. It has no label or name and it's got small casters on the bottom. It is covered in fabric and lined with paper. The hardware is original but some straps are broken or missing. It appears all the hardware is present. I am guessing 1800? Any ideas.

A very nice quality 1890's to early 1900's trunk. Nice cast iron finger lift over the lock and webbing around the front and sides and two big lid guides on the front. You will notice the end caps have raised knobs to protect the body of the trunk -- unusual height on those. Not sure who made this one but maybe someone else does,,, lovely example of a well made trunk of this era. Thanks for the post!!!

Thanks. Is this something that someone would restore Or do anything with?

There is restore and then there is refinish. To restore would mean to bring it back to its original state -- which would mean replacing all the leather straps, patching or replacing the canvas etc. Rewarding if it is for yourself but will not add a lot of value to the trunk. Refinishing is to take off the canvas and enjoy the look of the pine body underneath -- which I have done to trunks many time over -- depends on how bad the canvas is, Your trunk looks like it is in fair shape and perhaps a good cleaning will bring it to an acceptable level. Many advocate keeping them original. I know when I sell these types of trunks people have a preference for a refinished one -- they sell easier. So a bit of a coin toss what to do with them. My point of reference is what I like to do and where I see my trunk fitting into my home decor. I have fun refinishing them as a hobby so I like the project aspect. Hope this helps...

Yes that helps a lot. Thank you. I will have to decide what to do.
