this is made of wood and looks to be hand carved. I think it is an ashtray? It has England 1945 Camp 78 on it?

I have just found out that Camp 78 was a POW camp about 10 miles from my home. It was in Braintree, Essex.
Yep, before reading your first comment, I was thinking this little guy was a POW. The cap looks German and the colored patches look like something that was wen on uniforms to make them prisoner's clothes.

Apparently the POW's carved toys for local children and things for local families. It is a small world! It turns out that My Husbands Grandfather was a German POW based at Camp 78! He later returned to East Germany.
Hi. He is a little dusty but in perfect condition as he was locked in a display cabinet for years. Thanks for your input.
