I recently pick these up at a sale of a former WW2 Vets home he himself was a pilot. These are a group of some of the photos I aquired originals of the planes. I was able to ID the P-51 Mustangs but the others im not sure of the plane models. The really neat part is the one of the P51 that has the name " Big Beautiful Doll" I found out this was a very famous fighter plane in the war and its pilot was one of the US Aces. The other cool plane is the green one with nose art and named " Mackie" it has a bomb on the bottom that says " Yanks Greetings" "to Cpl. HITLER. I was hoping someone couls help me ID all the planes other than the mustangs.
Great pics! Photo 3 appears to be a Republic P-47 Thunderbolt dating to before the switch to a "bubbletop" canopy in 1944. The four-engine bombers are B-17s - not enough detail to tell which models. Not sure about the twin engine plane.
Also backs are stamped " Passed for Personal Use only. Not for Publication. Station censor f-357.
On second look, the twin engine plane has to be a P-38 Lightning. The guns are all clustered in the nose and you can make out the horizontal stabilizer spanning between the twin fuselage booms.
I finally got it. The P-51 is one of the original " Big Beautiful Doll" planes he flew. I was finally able to find a photo of him in this exact plane. Also in the photo you can see under the window Cpl. J.D.Landers. I didnt realize how decorated of a pilot he was and how much this plane has been made into many replica plane models and such now im happy.
Hi there wow great photos the twin engine looks like a p 38 aka fork tale devil
