I bought these around 20 yrs ago from a real American hero. He retired from the army after doing tours in WW2. Korea, and Vietnam. He then served as a recruiter here for many years. I worked with him in the car business for several years until he retired again and moved to FL He picked these up in the 50's while touring with his family through Europe. They're mostly German. I bought them from him at a yard sale he had just before moving. He's well into his 80's now. I understand he still rides his bicycle every day.
My wife mounted them for me. I wish I could get a better picture but I would probably have to take them out of the case. The glass covering them is kind of domed and it seems to distort things a bit...
I just found out that my friend Gordon Lowe, from who I got these pins, died last Sunday at the age of 88.... He really was an American hero and will be sorely missed.
Sorry about your friend, but you have his memories. I thank him for his service. RIP Mr. Lowe.
I love these old pinbacks.... Thanks birdie for loving them as well!!
Thank you for your kind words!
I bought a typical Bavarian hat when I was stationed in Germany the first time and tried buying one of these pins every place I went. Had two more tours in Germany before retiring and my hat is full. Love it!
