Do you ever feel that want to 'rescue' a piece of glass that is lost and under-appreciated? :) I came across this lovely little bowl that was sitting on a top shelf in a small antiques mall nearby. It was too high for me to read its tag, but when the lady up front opened the case for me, and it was labeled as being from the '1940s' (with a corresponding low price), I knew it had to come home with me and be appreciated. :)
At first I thought it might be Loetz, but due to the color and the pontil, I feel it is more probably Rindskopf. (Of course, any other opinions are welcome!) It is 5" in diameter, by about 2" tall, and in absolutely perfect condition.
(I felt very lucky that day - in the same store, I came across a Weller pottery jardiniere in Clinton Ivory (which I also collect) for $22 - woohoo!)
stunning!!
Thank you, Sean!
Your very welcome Michelleb007!!!
Thanks Gary! I thought Loetz at first, but I am not sure about the color...it doesn't look like Creta or some of the other Loetz greens I have...then I put it against a Rindskopf and they matched perfectly (much more yellow in the green), so that is one of the reasons I have been leaning towards Rindskopf.
But of course I am not a Loetz expert by any means, so perhaps I am wrong about the color. It is very good quality glass - not to say I don't think Rindskopf is good - but it doesn't have the bubbles and inclusions that you often see in Rindskopf.
Thanks Jay! :)
Well spotted:) I'd have had that one home as well.
Thank you, VintageFran! :)
Thanks, Lisa. Looking forward to seeing yours!
