Here is a very unusual example - readily identifiable as Prod. Nr. III-1119 (20 cm size), ca. 1920, in Dunkelblau (dark blue) overlay with colorless crystal ball feet, but an unusual underlay of yellow glass. The yellow layer is UV reactive, but in an unexpected way - it glows bright orange/red! (see third photo).
There were some firms in Nový Bor (German name: Haida) who commissioned from Loetz that did this type of cut to clear refinement; most notably, Julius Mühlhaus and Carl Schappel*. Schappel was certainly a customer who ordered from the regular Loetz production lines, as well as made-to-order pieces, as late as 1929.**

Full of Awe!
Awesome!
Love it!
Oh my!!!! such a beauty!!!! Got this very shape in yellow tango, pretty dramatic, but this one is so f...................beautiful!
F is for formidably, of course!
cool enough to take my mind of the snow that just doesn't seem to stop. nice!
I wonder what makes it glow red under UV? I will have to do some research on that! Maybe it's due to the cased glass? Very interesting!
Initially I thought manganese, but at least one person has suggested cadmium in the glass would both provide the yellow glass color and the red glow.
I always thought it was selenium that caused the red.
Thanks, Kyle - it surprised me, too. This piece also came from Germany - maybe it was the same one?
There are so many interesting aspects to this piece. The wheel-cut design, the color, the clear ball feet. I am always fascinated by these types of pieces. I often wonder if they made 100 of these how many actually made if off the line. Between attaching the feet and praying the temperature difference doesn't crack the attachment point to hoping the mold assisted process was a success to finally passing the completed vessel to a person using a mirror and a wheel to cut the designs. I love the care and work that went into it.
How can you tell if a Vtg Bohemian Czech Cased Glass Piece will glow a different color? Do you use a black light? I have a piece I am curious about after I saw this post of yours. Mine is Black & Yellow Cut to Clear. I am also wondering if it is a Carl Schappel Design...
