Cube size trunk recently found by my trunk buddy friend. All canvas covered and measures about 21 by 20 or so - leather on the sides and inside looks to have been where the hats were stored. All those cool pin cushion looking balls are missing. Slight bow on top and front hinges have a "D" on them. Light weight, like the large one I am working on right now - wondering if it will be the same light wood underneath. No other labels inside or outside of trunk.

Beautiful original Drucker hat trunk! The Nathan Drucker trunk company (N. Drucker & Co.) made many styles of trunks in Cincinnati, Ohio from the 1880's and sometime around 1910 they merged with another large company and became the Mendel-Drucker trunk company, making mostly the large wardrobe style trunks. These hat trunks were made is a few sizes and grades and this is a very nice one because it has the rawhide leather binding and a solid brass lock. Also it has some of the nicer Drucker style hardware, with their D and the fleur-de-lis design, which they put on their higher quality trunks. Many of these were made with basswood because it was lightweight and flexible, a choice wood for trunk makers. It's a very light colored wood with a fine grain. I like to preserve the original canvas if it's in nice condition and it can be cleaned and treated to preserve it and bring out the color. These had removable hat forms which were held in place with the small straps and buckles. There were several styles of the hat holders that were patented from the 1890's to early 1900's.
