Anyone know the histroy behind this print? It was given to me by an ex-NASA employee. I've had this for about 10-years and I have no idea about its origin.

well its a litle hard to read but thats definitly john glenns autograph and it looks like jim lovells too,..so im guessing its a LOT of astronauts signitures so hella HELLA colectable,..a piece of realy cool history ,..can you get a closer pic of the autographs?>
    2. shawnicus shawnicus, 11 years ago
are they actual signatures or are they part of the print?
    3. Obuschman, 11 years ago
It's actually a print that is number 49 of 1000. However, they sure look real. I'll upload a couple of closer shots.

Assume the astronauts signed the original and they made 1000 prints - you would need to search ebay nasa collectibles (19,000) to see if another exists and if the signatures are exactly the same positioning. - Other point is you seem to have two actual Eisenhower dollars in there, I can't see the date on either but 1971-1974 they made 40% silver issues in addition to regular copper-nickel issues. If they have an "S" mintmark, they are the silver ones. (made in both Mint & Proof)

They are US Proof 1971 "S" dollars.

I put a magnifier on the print and the signatures are part of the print. I imagine the original would be worth thousands $$.

If the dollars have a mirror-like finish, then they are Proofs. - Even a print, if only 1 of 1000, with thirteen astronauts signatures is highly collectible to "Space" collectors. This is a very nice piece. The photo itself is one of the actual NASA photos taken in 1969 during the moon landing.

Thanks, I get a lot of comments on it (it's hanging in my office). I have many collectables (stamps, coins, rock&roll) but this piece is a conversation started.

Note these are 1971-1974 dollar coins and are "brown box" 40 % silver proofs. They are called such because the hard shell case was packaged in a red flocked, plastic holder in a brown simulated wood grain box. (Uncirculated of these dates consist of a two celled cellophane holder containing one 40 % silver dollar and one embossed blue plastic chip, presented inside a simulated leather envelope).

The 40% silver content alone equates to $6.85 worth of silver (based on $21.67 per ounce).

      I know... TMI,
