This piece of pottery is a complete mystery. I found it in a thrift store, and liked it, on account of it's yellow color. It's about 5" long. I figured it was a weird, humorous planter, but eventually I saw one similar to it at an antique store in Cambridge (it was pink and white, with a slightly different face). Like mine, it bears no markings at all to indicate who made it. The lady who ran the shop was convinced it was a McCoy. She told me it had originally had a kind of fluffy tail that went in the hole in the rump, and that it diffused perfume water. Later, I found one online that was marked TEVVY and I think Japan (a cat, different color). I've found a few others, but very, very rarely, and they all appear to be unmarked. Several people are absolutely convinced theirs are Hull Pottery. So, I'm confused. I think people who are identifying these are only doing so based on what other people have told them, or what other people online have guessed, which just perpetuates the chain of bad information. Does ANYONE know definitively who made this cat diffuser? (or pig, or any of the other animals) I think it's a nice novelty, but I'd love to be able to knowledgeably tell about it (and correct other people as well!). Thanks!

I have a similar item purchased in an antique store only it is a green dog rather than a yellow cat. It is stamped TEVVY PAT. PENDING on the bottom. It was sold as a toothpick holder but it helpful to know that it is really a perfume diffuser. This was the only online reference to TEVVY pottery that I could find.
