Imari porcelain platter
I picked this at a garage sale I think it may be late 19th or early 20th century.
the base or foot is unglazed. If it was glazed I am sure it would be a modern reproduction. You can feel the textures of the layers of glaze.
12"x 14".
No markings on bottom. There are alot of round platters around not so many oval platters.
I see the usual small defects such as small unglazed spots where there was a particle laying on the the surface when it was fired, normal stuff.
Looks like a 4 colour pattern. Imari is actually a seaport in Japan where the plates left overseas as Japanese export.
So it is real I am sure.
I think it was probably made as a generic export item. However all Imari is unique.
