We rescued a bunch of bicycles, scooters and tricycles from a guy that was taking them to the scrap yard . This bike was in there. It is a 1930-40 Pope Columbia It's a western union mesinger bike . It was repainted in 70s new fenders re chromed if needed .We learned in the 70s western union had to keep some bikes on hand in case they went back to delivering messages after a while it was clear they weren't going back to message delivery so they sold them off I'm so happy I got to save this bike.We also saved a 1937 Schwinn Ladies standard[roadster] for my wife in bad shape but we cleaned it up and repainted it She loves the way it looks I ride a 1940 hawthorne rat rod our son rides 40s Jc Higgins we get lots of looks now we look for old bikes ever were we go. Its like a having OCD or something! Were into alot of cool old stuff it just has more personality than new things We love our VWs we got three. We love the show
I feel your pain...lol... It is a lot like OCD. I "caught" the bike bug about 20 years ago and I'm still making regular dump withdrawals. It is a lot of fun resurrecting these old beauties though.
Old bicycles and Volkswagen's,,,I have that disease too. Nice collection.
Hi, I was trying to researh Western Union Bicycle...is yours All original but the fenders. Did they use Pope or whatever the kids own at that time. I own about 100 bicycles in my collection.

I live right by a scrapyard and I am always saving old bikes. Found a donald duck bicycle last time we dropfed off some metal. I love putting these old bikes back on the road.
FYI, this is not Mike Wolfes site....................thought you'd like to know...
Hey there,
I was just wondering if you had any more info on the western union bicycles? I just found one in a barn outside of Philly and was wondering if it was worth restoring. It seems to be different version than yours. although it does have a skip chain, coaster brake, and chrome fenders. However it has a single top tube. Any info helps.
thanks
