I've had this piece for awhile. I've always assumed it was a paperweight, but have no real knowledge that it is. It's very heavy, weighing just over 5 pounds. Measuring the top, it is 10 1/2" long and 3" wide through the center. It stands 2 7/8" tall and is signed on the side toward the bottom edge. I would love to identify the signer as well as confirm that it's a paperweight.
It could also be an art object , glass sculpture.
I read "Fausto".
I agree with vetraio50 ... I think it is a glass sculpture. If the first character is actually a "T" & "r" on top of each other, it could be Transjo; possibly another artist copying the style of Bertil Vallien's glass sculptures
Well, I am now looking at my assumed paperweight with new eyes! Thank you both for the information. I have tried searching for Transjo, but not coming up with anything related to this sculpture. However, the sculpture being styled after Bertil Vallien is a big possibility. It is really very close to a couple of his boats, so I'm now wondering if it could have been cast by one of his crew, or perhaps someone studying his work. I just wish the signature was a bit more legible.
