One of the big surprises people gets when they learn more about Tango glass from Lötz is that the not only made decorative bowls and vases, but glassware; teapots, cups, glasses, jugs... the fact of learning about their ashtrays only tells us Lötz was not a conservative company, but was on the avant-garde and cared for people's lifestyles, and in those years smoking was "the thing" -and it went on being the thing until people starting suing the tobacco companies and now smoking is sort of a shameless thing to do... the "unspeakable thing".
These On the fourth pic you can see a red one and the "czecho-slovakia" stamp on its base. There is also a green variant of this design and finally, one picture from the 2012 Tango exhibition dsplaying several Tango items from Lötz, where you cans ee a red or orange one.
It's rare Carlos got these two as, just like me, he's not the kind of collector to get several colours from one design, but due to its rarity we've now got these two beautiful babies (and as you can see, we've got both boy and girl ;) LOL)
They both stand 5cm tall and their diameter on the base is 13,5 cm.
Stunning!!!!!
Thanks Sean! Also thankd czechman and Moonstone and agh for loving it! :)
Thanks for your love geo and famatta! :)
Fabulous to see them.
Wonderful colours too!
Thanks vet! I never thought I could enjoy seeing together these cheesy baby-colours :)
Thanks for your love vanskyock!
These are SO cool - I love the shape! I like them just as bowls, and didn't even see them as ashtrays until you mentioned it. And your comment about the pink & blue too funny! :)
mikel, Violet, DrFluffy, Leah, , Mani, Amber, Michelle and Racer: thanks so much for your love!!!
They could do great just like bowls, but cannot help seeing the three cigarette holders :)
Smoking may be "unthinkable" in Spain but is actually on the rise in the USA. Also "pot" is now legal to smoke in Colorado. Also cigars are very popular.
So maybe the Tango ash trays will be all the rage here !!!
Well, smoking is still socially non-accepted everywhere. I have never been a smoker but even if I accept people to smoke at my place I quite agree with the no smoking in public places laws. I remember my friend Terra was quite in shock when we made her come back indoors to smoke her I'm-so-nervous-I-need-a-fag cigarette during the 2000 elections in Tallahaasse (yes, I lived the whole ballots drama first hand, and suffered the library closing bcause of the recount...)
So, does that mean my ashtray collection will be raising in price? ;)
Thanks very very much for loving them Jay, GlueChip, Fran, LoetzBuddies and icollectglass!!!
Thanks ks85!
