I in herited these from my grandparents. I have always been infatuated with Egyption history and so this was my pick from their Estate. I have had them with the authenticity papers scince 2001. They stay n my closet not on display so I thought this would be a good way to show them off and maybe get some info regarding value or more history? My grandfather collected lights and lamps, I guess these were no exception. He told me that the Egyptions would use whale oil/blubber as fuel for them, but I don't know what the wick material was or if they were common or not. One has a hole in the handle (for hanging?) Anyway, what do you think?
Jason,
Are you a history teacher? Man you are just a plethera of knowledge! I of course wish they were more rare, but think they are still cool. I cannot find info on Kamloops or even if they are still around. There is no date on the paperwork either. I wonder how they were able to authenticate it? Maybe took a scrape sample to anylize or just by sight and descritors were able to tell... OR the worst case.. it's all fake.. who knows, I still think they are neat. I have seen them locally in a museum http://www.egyptianmuseum.org/
Maybe I'll try to bring them in and see what they think?
