I bought this chair as is, and thought it would be fun to redo it. I have no background in restoration and am not looking to restore it to look original. I was thinking of recovering it in burlap for a chic look. I am stuck because I cannot find a picture of this chair ANYWHERE on the internet to use as a visual guide. I do not know exactly how it should look finished... what areas are to be covered with fabric/batting/padding etc. Anyone out there have any advice?

I am interested as I have a dissimilar project with similar legs (turned and square). My chair has different arms, and has been recovered as well as painted by a well meaning meddler. Also my chair only has turnings that can be seen from the front. Can't help with styles, but if anyone knows the period or type-name, help us out.

Yes, really has me stumped... Spent so much (way too much!) time on the internet searching and serching images, determined to find a picture of this exact chair to no avail. It is SO frustrating!!!

I would use solid brown leather seating part!!! no patterns it just doesn't look right !! Beautiful chair.

That's what I was thinking because I have some nice, worn brown leather on hand. How to cover the seat back has me stumped. I know it was covered before, because I see lots of nail holes. I bought the chair as is, so I have no clear idea how to go about it.

Caralynn, have you progressed with the refinishing of this chair? I have one similar I just posted recently. "Antique Chair". I removed all the webbing, burlap and springs from mine. I also removed all the gozillion tacks that were used from it. My chair, too, has a zillion holes where tacks had been placed. I cleaned mine up and will create a back and seat using thin wood and covered with padding and material to turn it into a useable chair. Would love to know how your chair is coming along.
