When I bought these new in box, I thought they were taxiway marker lights. But it appears they may be for navy or nautical application as they are made of brass & bronze parts. They were manufactured in 1985 in Cambridge, ON. They could be for a navy vessel or channel marker light.
One side has the smooth directional portion of the lens the rest of the lens is a fresnel type.
Third photo shows the bronze retaining ring polished.
Any other information would be greatly appreciated.
It's possible that they are steering lights for vessels over 100 meters to navigate the Panama Canal.

Nice. They could be nautical but they were also used in many areas where corrosion was an issue like sewer plants and many industrial plants. Both red and yellow brass have been used in lighting for years.

Is the base brass also? That would be awesome polished up.

Hi Az, yes the base is brass & yes they do look awesome polished up. I'm remaking a couple of them into wall sconces.
I just found out that blue lights are used as navigation lights on the starboard side of vessels.
Thanks for the love on this.

:) thanks Walks. Is there anywhere that I'd be able to locate something like that? I love the blue and I'm sure it'd be beautiful when lit up.
    13. walksoftly walksoftly, 11 years ago
Your'e welcome Printsid, these seem to be a unique setup, the base is a standard brass Appleton junction box to which they have added a thread adapter ring. The blue Fresnel lens is made by Kopp Glass & they have been producing clear and colored precision molded and blown technical glass for over 85 years.
      I sent you an email.
