- Einar Holboell, an employee of the Danish Post Office, created the Christmas Seal believing that seal sales could raise money for charity. The post offices of Denmark, Iceland, and Sweden first began to sell such seals in the 1904 Christmas season.
Christmas Seals were first issued in the United States starting in 1907.
