This is out thrid Tango ashtray. The design couldn't be more Art Deco and more simple.

The black accents are not made of glass, but applied enamel and it stands about 7cm tall.

    Any idea about its origin?

The rest for the cigarette is a curved indentation. Never seen its like before! A very clever design piece.

      Yes it is.

That's what I call a perfect design: designing by removing elements instead of by adding them.

Thanks Kev, Welzebub, moonstone and charcoal for your loves and/or comments!!

Thanks Mani!!! That orange this made me hungry for one too... that'll be a perfect breakfast!!! (8:31 am in Spain)

This Orange with black rim reminds me certain designs of Loetz which could be astonishingly modern. But I don't think it's Loetz, it's more like a quotation.

Wow..this is one cooool ashtray!! Where do you get all your alien stuff...come on your in league with 'them' aren't you!
    11. austrohungaro austrohungaro, 11 years ago
Hahaha, not half as alien as the stuff we've been sharing lately... well, maybe just a little bit proto-Space-age :)
    12. austrohungaro austrohungaro, 11 years ago
No cobalt, i don't think it's a Lötz either, but they were soooo modern, I do agree with that!!! By the way, just saw you amazing new Lindstrand... isn't it an amazing piece??? I love you got it!!!

It's pretty easy to wash, Jay... I should know! we use our antiques, so this one has been used at home too.

Thanks everybody for your loves and comments, guys!

Just back from a long weekend out and it's great seeing so much love for this little ashtray :)

      Thanks so much, JayHow!!!

It really is the same ashtray, but I have one question. As I've read, Arthur von Frankenberg -the soul of Frankart- was an esculptor... wouldn't he buy or commission the glass items from another company -even a European one- and adapt his work to hold these? (Dorothy Thorpe, for instance, worked over different glass companies stuff). My point is that this ashtray was bought in Spain, and is my believe that no American products would be imported at the time, so the ashtray shold be on german/Bohemian origin.

On the other hand, I've found a jade coloured ashtray and it reminds me in more than one way of an ice-cream set in the sme colour I've got. So it almost proves the glass astray is European

Jefferson glass company made a similar version, I have one in red not sure if it's czech or Jefferson glass company.

I have one with the original label. It is the Jefferson Glass Company of Follansbee West Virginia. Mine also has advertising for LeRoy Doellner Radios New York City.
