Very nice ! I remember using them on farm but I have no idea exacty what year they started producing them but I have seen them still in use . Does the glass jar have a name on it ?
No name but it does have a metal band around it, do you know if there is a Market somewhere for it?
You can still buy the foot (base) of this at Home Depot and use any standard 32 oz Mason jar. This size would have been used to feed hatchlings and can also be used for water. I am not positive but I do think the company that makes Mason canning jars had a hand in developing these. This one looks like it is galvanized so may be anywhere from the depression to after WWII. My ex in laws owned a chicken farm in New Hampshire and I recall seeing these when I was picking the family dump. Back then farmers had their own dump somewhere behind the house where they threw away anything and everything. We even pulled the cab and chassis of a 39 chevy pickup out of that dump.
Yep mason jars were used as well as a few others . I thought they were still in use .
Nice Fhr solve :-)
I seriously doubt finding a market for this, except perhaps as an ornament or to use for some type of arts and crafts. This was probably put together with tin/lead solder which pretty much rules out actually using it to feed or water.
