I have had this coin for year and kept it stored away. My parents brought it back from a trip to Mexico many years ago. They traveled the world and as a result I have currency from several countries. This particular item has especially caught my interest because I found a website which said it was rare but I have not been able to confirm that through any other sources.
KM# 536 Mexico (1000) Pesos - Aluminum/Bronze
Value in your condition 50¢ - circulated condition
The "Proof" version is worth $550 because there are only 2 known to exist
Thank you for the information. What does "proof" version mean?
Proof coins are minted on specially polished dies, usually struck twice on the same coin to get an extremely detailed relief, and then the dies are repolished before the next coin. It would have a mirror-like finish background and the relief may be a "frosted" look. If my catalog says only 2 known to exist, they may have been struck and one presented to the coin designer and one to the head of the Mexico mint.
I have a few of those and other coins
