My dad gave me this chest that was my grandmothers...and trying to find out what kind of chest this is and how to bring it back to life..not that it has life the way it is now. It does has a leather strap on the right but missing on the left. It looks like metal/ wood makings with some kind of key opening that is broke.
So if any one can help me I would be very greatful...

This looks like a fun project. I cannot tell if the body is metal or canvas covered. It s a cross slat, barrel stave chest about 1890 or so. If the slat clamps and handle end caps are cast iron ,I think that is about right. First, to get that paint off! That is the not so fun part. Good luck.

Thanks...it does have, what seems to be a thin metal with wood planks and a wood inside...also with two wood planks on the bottom with very tiny wheels....could you use paint stripper on thin metal..our sites it need to be buffered off??

I have used stripper on all of it. Usually the wood slats or staves require more than one treatment. Lots of work and mess but also rewarding. Have fun
