A 10th anniversary present, this is one of my most prized possessions. An Estruscan inspired Archaeological Revival gold bracelet, with ram’s head and filigree. Very much in the Castellani tradition, the quality is superb. The piece is unmarked, but fortunately it comes in its lovely red velvet original fitted case, with the name of the maker: Luigi Freschi of Via Condotti in Rome (the address is now a Furla bag shop). I looked him up and he was a jeweller and metal worker who is listed in Rome’s early tourist guides from 1860-1880, at the height of archaeological revival and Grand Tour jewellery. I have seen very similar pieces in the British Museum and Victoria & Albert Museum collections. I love the bracelet, but I’m also a bit afraid of damaging it, so I only wear it on very special occasions.
Fantastic piece. I think I saw a similar piece on the Antiques Roadshow (British version).
YOU HAVE A FANTASTIC COLLECTION....
WOW!!! Beautiful... I wouldn't wear it either : )
Saw that same show Nadia.
Gobsmacked.
Wow!
Thanks for the feedback DrFluffy, nutsabotas6, mackay1st, and vetraio50, and all the rest for the loves! I actually know which AR episode you're talking about... the piece there was indeed very similar though bigger. I wonder if this one is 24K gold as well.
I wouldn't be surprised...
I should hope so... we didn't pay a 'tenner' in a flea market for it, like that lady in the show :)
Stunning Like it very much!
