I inherited this piece from my Grandfather in Amsterdam about twenty five years ago. I found it unusual because the bottom one inch or so is unglazed and has one row of Chinese symbols. From research, this might indicate a fake. Always wondered when these fakes were made and whether it arrived in Europe, painted or unpainted. I do not know how long he had it, but I marvel that the tobacco leaf on the lid has survived unscathed. Its large measuring 7 and one half inches high and its widest circumference measures exactly twenty one inches. Perhaps a saucer was placed underneath to draw moisture from water poured in the saucer. Who Knows!! Any pros out there want to contribute? No need for a dollar value just interested in meaning of symbols and placing it in a general date of manufacture. Thank you all for reading this rather long winded contribution.
