I happened upon this beauty at an estate sale it had been sitting in this person’s unfinished basement for the better part of 4 decades untouched as near as I can tell. I am still working on getting more info about this unit. For the research I have done so far here is what I have… This was produced in the very early 1900s by the Brinswick Company. I have found some similar but later produced model’s literature from the early 1920s. This is one of the first electrically amplified record players made. This unit used a combination of batteries (which ran the radio unit and amplified speaker) and house plug (which powered the turntable of the record player). This unit has a panel on the left side which contains the antennae and can be adjusted open or closed to improve reception. It also came with a set of records in books that, according to the research I have done, came with the unit when it was first sold. I would be happy if anybody who may have any idea where I can find more info would let me know where else I can look most of what I have found has been info on similar units. I have yet to find anything on this exact model. I am new to collecting but the style and condition of this unit really spoke to me when I saw it. I have always had a fondness for the style and quality of the items made in the early 1900s. It was exciting to find a piece of living history just sitting in a basement waiting to be discovered. I would like to try at some point to have the content of the records transferred to cd or digital music files so I can listen to them. It also struck me that this was the equivalent to a home entertainment center of the time and must have been a tremendous expense for someone at the time.
