Giant Ceramic Orange

This giant orange is 10 inches across and 8.5" tall. There is a signature underneath - 'USA' and some numbers which i can't quite make out. I imagine this is a 'planter' from the days when people thought plants just don't need any drainage at all - hence no holes. I love the color orange though and this is such a nice, big, shiny bit of it! i really like it. anyone know who made it and when? Hull? Mccoy? maybe?
