    These vases were made in Portugal by Alcobaca. They have RD above this and a hand painted pattern number. Although at first glance they look like a pair, the picture of the cottage on the back is larger on one and a lot of the detail is different. 1 has 1297 as a number and the other has 1243 so maybe they are not a pair at all?

    Any thoughts?

      Sure looks to me they are a pair. Could it be that the differences are because they are hand painted with slightly different pictures on them?

      Alcobaca is actually a region in Portugal, famous for pottery, but yours doesn’t look like the traditional pieces painted there, they appear finer quality,maybe older?. I think the RB initials may be the actual maker, but more research is needed
