Here's an old Volkswagen tool? Or vintage advertisement key? Measure a little greater than 4" long. The bottom of the key is four sided. Two of the sides are blank. One side says "To Fit Volkswagen" the other side says "Taylor 557"
    Any ideas?

That is a VW bus church key to open up the gas tank door. Don't know about the Taylor 557 though.

Thank you! Any idea how old it might be? Do they still use them?

Taylor was an aftermarket keyblank mfgr. They were absorbed back in the late 80's/early 90's by ILCO. The church key you have is still used on older VW buses. They bring around $20-$30 at VW swap meets. No keyblank mfgr is currently producing these keys. There are several VW parts mfgrs that make a church key for then gas door, but they aren't as nice as the old Taylor ones. Nice find.
