This is the piece that inspired the trade/purchase deal with Jericho. A farewell posting if you will. I stumbled across this vase almost by accident. found it posted on some backwoods website in Canada similar to Craigslist here in the US. It had been listed for a month and shockingly was still available. I inquired about it two times with no response...so I e-mailed the administrator and complained that the seller was not answering my e-mails. a day later I got an answer and it basically said "I do not ship items...thank you". Well to make a long story short, 2 weeks later it was on its way to me....and the price? I won't say because it will make you cry :) I shared the piece with Jericho and well, he had to have it.
It is quite a rare piece with only two examples seen...this being the second one since 1998. There is another exactly like this but with orange flowers and blue ground bottom pictured on the cover of the autumn 1998 Czechoslovakian collectors guild international (I do have a photo of it). The shape, pink bottom color, glossy finish are all rare. The pieces took a lot of work, first shaping the bubble, adding the pink ground, bambus décor, then the flower petals one petal at a time. Transferring the pontil to the base, cutting the bubble in half, pulling the shape with tongs and then fire polishing the rim. This was done by a pair of fast working glass smiths. If anyone has one like this or has photos of others, please post.
Wowzerz!! stunning...there was a marquetry on ebay recently that went for good $$$$'s .

No problem ozmarty. I was watching that one. Actually I expected it to go higher. I thought it would break $1,000
Kyle,
It is about 9" x 5 1/2"
Hi Jagsrock95 me too...
I still prefer the colours of your / Jericho's ..
Hi J. This is Lovely, I've never seen anything like it. Thanks for posting. Its a shame the link didn't work. Did the other one get near to a 1000!? I wouldn't be surprised if it did, its beautiful.
I really loved the story leading up to this amazing piece of glass! Thanks.
glossy pieces like this are at least as rare as those rootbeer types... Although marquetry pieces are not too rare they are cery desirable
Thanks IanBrighton!
Jericho. ..they seem rare to me...lol
I love them...great color combining the best of czech decor.
well nobody wants to sell them but i come across about 8-10 per year, is that rare?
Based on that...I would say "no" ... but if you are finding that many per year...I need to hang out with you more...because I'm not seeing that many.
Do you still have access to the Autumn 1998 Czechoslovakian Collectors Guild International publication mentioned in your posting?
I dont have the issue...just a picture of the cover
The article in the 1998 publication apparently suggests Ernst Steinwald & Co. in Teplitz as the manufacturer. Just wondering what it said exactly?
