I found this little trinket box at a local antique store and on the tag it said "Limoges powder box". I thought it was so beautiful and a great way to store jewelry. When I went to pay for it (it was $12) the lady said that it was actually most likely used not for powder, but for keeping hair. She said women would keep their hair and then they would weave it to make things. When she was writing up the receipt she said "Limoges" in a fancy way and made the facial expression that looked like "you really found a treasure". As you can see on the bottom, it's stamped with "Limoges hand painted".
So, off I went to the next antique store down the street. I was just wandering around when I see the same pink color/gold painting on a larger box about double the size, but oval. I looked inside and it had an Elizabeth Arden powder pad in it. I couldn't believe my eyes when I turned it over and it had the same exact stamp on it! I was even more surprised when the woman sold it to me for $6! It was just meant to be.
So, I have been researching for an hour or so and I can't seem to find anything about when this was made. I did, however find a woman on here (who posted a year ago) looking for the date on a perfume bottle that had the same pink/gold painting on it and had the same stamp on the bottom. She couldn't find anything about when it was made either and no one could find anything either. I'm hoping someone can help me!
Please comment if you know/can find any information!
Thanks,
Jacqueline
