This chair has a recess in it that a press board seat is cut to shape and tacked in place. Again my daughter hand water colored the picture then it was cleared with 3 coats polyurethane.

Hi James, I have a pair of chairs similar to this one, pressed back with spindles, but a cane seat. The wood has been refinished and the seats are new cane. Do you have any idea what the value is for a pair of them? Thanks
Is it pressed cane or hand woven cane?
Hi! I purchased the cane already woven. Then used a wooden spline to put it in with glue. Does that answer your question? It looks like the stuff you have in the photo on the chairs in the background. If that helps. ;-)
That is pressed cane. It is hard to tell what a chair or set of chairs is worth without looking at them. Because even though they look like the one in the picture. There are chairs that seem similar but are worth a lot more. Where you live has a bearing on price also. Another thing are they in original finish how good is the finish. If it isn't original finish was it restored or polyurethaned. If there are labels are they in good shape. A lot of things make up the value of the pieces. If yours are like the one in my photo a set of two could bring $125 - $275 low end High end (if they happen to be made by Larkin or another well known brand name) $250 - $450. Sorry I can't be any better help then this.
The info was great! I did a little research and there is a book called Larkin Oak that has old catalog photos of the furniture they gave away for "free". My local library cant get it, so I am going to try to buy it.
I Like.

DMK678 Thank you. It's nice to see you have an appreciation for all antiques. Some we treasure because they bring back fond memories. Others we admire for their beauty. But mostly I feel we can learn something from each and every collectible item. Weather it is how to or not to make something. That art is truly in the eye of the beholder. And most importantly how kind or how terribly cruel man can be to his fellow man. We collectors are here to remind everyone about human history in all its glory and all of its horror. Stay young keep collecting my friend
