Hey guys I bought this trunk from a yard sale down the street, I thought I would make a cool addition to my living room. Anyone know anything about it? It's very heavy and by the look of it, very old. Every time a guest comes over the first question they ask is how old is it and where is it from? I would really like to be able to answer them truthfully instead of making up guesses. lol Can anyone please help me out?
Thank you in advance,
Samantha O.
Love the interior
Your lovely wardrobe trunk looks to be from about 1910-20's era. It is covered with a material known as vulcanized fiber. If there are no maker's mark on it then it will be difficult to know which company manufactured it. It is a standard make and model of its time. I will say that the coloring of the fibre is unique -- first time I have seen an example of this type. it is a fun piece and bonus that the interior is in good shape. Thanks for the post!!!
How exciting! Thank you both so much, when I saw the inside of it at the yard sale I had to have it! It's so cute! lol There actually is a little part of a sticker on there. Could that be a part of the brand or maker? I will try to add the picture of the sticker.
You are welcome -- looks like a traveling sticker -- possibly saying something to the effect of which compartment the trunk should be stored while on a ship.
I'm sure glad someone knew what this was. I was going to guess it was a coffin for dirty laundry :)
