This is a large, midcentury planter made of some kind of softish porcelain. It's amazing that it's all in one piece, w/ only one tiny nick - considering it's been outdoors all this time. There's no mark that i can see on it. I'm actually more of a dog person, but i can take ceramic kitties better than real ones [allergies]. Anyone know anything about this kitty?

it's a hobby ceramic piece from 1960s-70s. I have one just like it (sans the planter cut-out) resting under the quilt rack in the living room. There area couple more with different artistic expressions here on CW:

thanks sean68, tallcakes, and aimathena. i've had others of these too, but much smaller ones. this one is bigger than any cat i've ever seen! this thing is 17 inches long and 11 inches tall.

ho2, I don't know what the measurements were, but the ceramic cats I saw as a child were huge... everyone had them sitting on top those console tv's & the cat took up the entire center on the tv cabinet. Also... "I forgot to add" they weren't planters, they didn't have any openings on the top.

i'll never understand why so many 'planters' were made in this country with no holes in them for drainage! did everyone grow water lillies, slime gardens or what?! very few, if any plants can grow in the anaerobic environment created in a drainage-free container. what was everyone thinking?!
