I bought a Victorian era photo album book that was full of cabinet cards and I think these were my favorite. The first picture shows a girl with a Zither on her lap. The second picture is actually a boy (I thought was a girl). I guess boys used to wear dresses during that time period, which is something I never knew. And just look at that rocking horse, pretty cool picture. The last picture is a memorial from a Civil War Union soldier. GAR was a Union Soldier veteran group that was formed. I used to look passed old photos at all the sales I used to go to, but now I will be digging. Pretty cool the stuff you can learn just by looking at some old photos....
I sometimes feel sad when I see old photos of people. I always think that somewhere out there -- there is still some of their family -- but now lost.
............BUT -- I also love to see the history these photos tell us about the clothing, jewelry they may have on, and furniture that is used in the photos. It is History captured!! Love them!!
Nice cabinet cards! A fine grouping of quality images.
The GAR one is particularly unusual. The US Flag shows 48 stars indicating it is from 1912 at the earliest. A cabinet card that far into the 20th century is unusual.
I too am a fan of antique images-- take a look at my postings!
