After being snowed in by yesterday's storm I was dying to get out. I went to Salvation Army this morning and this is what I came home with. A 10" art glass coiled trumpet vase. The top is 6" across. The cashier said "I knew you'd find this"....lol. It wasn't expensive, in fact I almost put it back because I think it's Chinese glass. but I thought what the heck I don't have one of these. The bottle green background kind of put me off, so I figure it's not Italian. I really don't know. It has hard water stains so maybe it has some age. I see these in different sizes all the time so I finally decided to pick one up. -Mike-

Your glass is of the same design as mine..I have 2 ...1 is green swirls, and the other is a shorter 1 in a blue motiff,.. after some researching i've came to find out that this glass is from the seventies..called "end of day" made from artisans from around the penn. area..there is an abundance of different colours, and styles, (swanns) and if your lucky enough, some have paper tags at the bottom..the hard waters stains can be removed (mine has dirt, previous owner used it for a plant vase..) with caution..by the way, i found mine here in Canada,(B.C.) so they do get around..T

"End of Day" (EOD) simply refers to an age-old practice where factory workers would use scraps from the day's efforts to make personal items, gifts, and otherwise experiment. The type of EOD glass collectors tend to seek are from well established factories, and likely from the 40's and earlier ... back to Victorian times and still earlier.

What I believe you have is a beginner's project or demonstration piece. These are the sort of items often made as souvenirs at the Corning Museum of Glass by daily visitors. They come in swan and other forms as well.

Some are quite pretty, but they tend to be more project oriented rather than commercially produced / sold.

Very interesting info ....bentonhavin and twentiethc. So I take it it's not Target Chinese decorative glass ?? Thanks so much :)

Thanks vintagefran and yes they do. They always ask me what I do with all this stuff. My reply is "I keep it and it goes in my treasure room"....lol

I can't swear to it that none of it comes from China, but here are some links that will show examples of the type of works you can make at the Corning Museum. These classes have evolved over the years to be more and more sophistocated as techniques and tools advance,

most similar to what you have:

Pretty awesome Mike. This story reminds me of your undecided love for your elephant lamp LoL. Just like the elephant lamp, I think it'll grow on you :p

Oh I like it well enough Aim, it's just that I don't think you see the "coke bottle glass green" in Italian pieces, but you do see it in glass from China. It's still a pretty interesting form though :)

It's a fantastic form Mike. The top is wicked cool, like a claw and the bottom spirals down like a snake. Super cool vase, love it. Will you email me (aimathena@gmail.com) so I can talk to you about the video games? I can't remember what post you left your email in.

How bigs your treasure room! Lol. I would love a massive one! I turned down a rather nice I think Murano lobed dish/paperweight yesterday, which normally i would buy, purely for space reasons..hmm I'm still tempted to get it, was an unusual shape & very nice. if its still in the shop Monday I'm having it..i can't help myself:)

Oh I know that feeling all too well. If I like something space constraints don't even enter my mind, but it does make you more selective. My stuff is every where Fran, While I like pieces to be integrated into a rooms decor, I have to settle for artfully arranged clutter.....lol
