This stamp is printed in green, arranged horizontally, and the central design shows two Coast Guard landing craft proceeding from a supply ship in the background. Across the top of the stamp in a lightly shaded panel appear the words, "United States Postage," in dark Gothic lettering. Directly under this panel and to the extreme right appears the denomination numeral "3" with the word, "cents," below, likewise in dark Gothic. Centered across the bottom of the stamp are the words, "U. S. Coast Guard." To the left and right of these words, slightly elevated, are the dates, "1790," and "1945," all in white-face Gothic.
The initial sale of this stamp took place at New York, N.Y., on November 10, 1945.
