Calthorpe were a single cylinder British motorcycle primarily produced in the 30s.
Because they were a pre-unit design (ie. engine and gearbox were separate) the gear boxes were supplied by a separate company and essentially bolted on to the power plant and driven by a belt or chain.
Albion was a large producers of gearboxes in the 20s and 30s and supplied to many bike producers. I'm not sure but I think this is a 3 speed box. On one side would be the drive for the belt from the engine crankshaft to the gearbox primary shaft, on the other is the output shaft from the gearbox, with a sprocket for chain drive to the rear wheel.
There is a fair bit on the web about these 2 brands.
I pressed the wrong one that says no emails by mistake how can I reverse it.
thanks racer4four good info.
