    1850's Ambrotype photograph. Ruby red see-thru glass. No info on who the subjects are. Found in an old steamer trunk. Measures 2" x 2 1/2". Curious as to the frame material. Brass?

      The ruby glass ambrotypes are popular.

      The matting is stamped brass as is the keeper (holds image, mat and cover glass together).

      Your image is a NINTH plate.

      Why doesn't this brass tarnish like other brass?
