Here are a trio of English Codd bottles from my bottle collection. These are the only bottles I have purchased, all the rest (mainly milk bottles) I mostly dug up from the ground. I can only assume these are old bottles, but I know there are reproductions floating around. I bought them years ago simply because I liked them (the sandcastle one because it reminds me of my family's beach house and the greyhound ones because I used to have a pet greyhound that was retired from racing). If anyone has more information about them, please share.

The pair (one large, one small):
    S. Speak
    Clitheroe
Shows an image of a greyhound dog with a rabbit in it's mouth and the word "Registered Trademark"
On reverse the larger one says "Patent Safe Groove, 4, Sole Makers, Dan Rylands Ld, Barnsley" while the smaller one says "The Rylands, 4, Barnsley"
Both have a marble inside that is green & clear. One has a metal ring piece that used to be part of seal down in the bottom of the bottle.

    The aqua one:
    Roberts
    Castleford
Shows an image of a sandcastle with the word "Trademark"
On reverse it says "Codd's Patent Bottle, Extra Strong Glass"
There is a blue marble inside that once sealed it.

      go toCodds'n'Odds-fake,reproduction&modern Codds& Minerals.
Your castlefords is a reproduction. The 2 bottles from Barnsley are real and are from 1875-1883. Dan Rylands Ltd was a large producer of the Codds. All sizes and embossed so company filling them could identify their bottles. They were filled with Carbonated mineral water and carbonated lemonade. The indent was to keep the marble from going back to the top when you drank out of it. I dug up a few when I was stationed in England. You dig up a lot with broken tops, because kids, after drinking, would break the neck off to keep the marble.
