This item is a mystery. I have no idea what its used for. As the picture shows, it has a square galvanized container with a wooden bladed paddle mixer in side. Similar to an old butter churn. But butter churns aren't square? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Ice cream maker, but that still doesn't explain the square sides?
@ blunderbuss2 Thanks for your guess. I have no idea's. The wooden paddles inside would suggest a liquid being mixed. Wall paper glue?
Looks way to unsanitary for any kind of food stuff, we'll give blunder the first cone, and make it a triple dip.....
Packrat, I've got fungal pneumonia right now & sure wouldn't need what the 1st cone might bring me. Just can't imagine what could be evenly mixed in in a square/rectangular container?
I wounded if it was for blending dry ingredients, such as soil mixes for in a greenhouse. Some of those orchid collectors had secret soil mix recipes, often composed of very lightweight materials like ground coconut husks and puffed vermiculite.
Just a thought...

Hedgewalker, I don't think I have ever churned butter or maybe my subconscious blotted it out. Do they work right in a square container? Maybe. Of course I'm so old that I have to look at my passport to spell my middle name correctly.
A square shape introduces turbulence, so yes it would work just fine. With the lid missing, I kept picturing the mess it would make... .

Guess that may make sense Tube. As said, I don't remember ever churning, but wasn't it done fairly slowly to a rhythm?
I appreciate your concern. At 1st, I thought I was going to die, then afraid I wasn't. It's not easy trying to stay in bed in the tropics but certainly wouldn't trade it for being in the Yankee States right now. I was going to send "my best" but right now I don't seem to be able to find it.
Wow, excellent help everyone! I certainly appreciate the interest in this item. I'm happy to know that it's a butter churn. I've searched Google and found other exact models of this. I will retrieve this from my storage lot and clean it up and repost it with some better shots, with my Dazey football churn also.
