Some time ago vetraio50 posted a vase from the Danish pottery Danico. Niels Peter Nielsen (the NI in Danico) was born in the hamlet of Egebjerg in 1888 and was an apprentice at one of the local potteries, Annashaab. Having finished his apprenticeship, he started his own pottery, Egebjerg Pottery, which he ran 1909-1919, producing bowls, plates, jam pots and many other items for daily use, but also decorative objects such as vases and sculptures. This vase was made at Egebjerg Pottery and it is decorated with a characteristic drip glaze which is sometimes called 'tortoiseshell' (for obvious reasons!). After the Danico Pottery closed in 1928, the apparently tireless Niels Peter Nielsen started another pottery, Dagnaes Keramik. I will post some vases from Dagnaes Keramik at some point...
Height: 18 cm / 7 in. Mark: NP (for Niels Peter) in ligature (I think the photo can be enlarged). Sometimes the signature reads 'N.P. Nielsen EGEBIERG' - both these marks were used by Niels Peter Nielsen when he ran Egebjerg Pottery.
Thanks so much for sharing this, JENSEN. I am informed. Very nice!
