I love Asian art so when I saw this at GW it was a must have. I have a couple of these pieces already and they usually represent the Goddess of Compassion Guan Yin in various poses holding flowers or baskets. There's lots of intricate detail even the basket's weave is pierced through. I'm guessing this 11" piece dates to post WW II/ mid 20th century or so and in perfect condition .With no markings it is difficult to date Dehua porcelain. This piece is hollow and does have the number 13 scratched inside the base but that's it. I've seen similar numbers on other pieces as well, that were quite expensive, so I think I might have a nice piece here. -Mike-

    History of Blanc De Chine

Blanc de Chine porcelain was made in the province of Fugian in Dehua. This area almost never marked their porcelain as it speaks for itself. Beginning in the mid-thirteenth century, the kilns of Dehua, capital of the Fujian Province in southeast China , began producing brilliant white porcelain pieces, the likes of which had never been seen before. These pieces were originally crafted with only domestic markets in mind, for use as cooking and serving ware, or for decorative or religious purposes. But as Chinese artifacts made their way around the world, a significant market for these porcelains blossomed in Europe , where they were prized for their refinement of form and beauty of glaze.

This one is 25 miles from where I live. They get some really nice items because it's closer to Cleveland. Their prices are higher by comparison too.

No.... It's actually in North Olmsted on Lorain Rd. next to a Save A Lot. I pretty much go there everyday weather permitting and also The Volunteers of America Store on Lorain and Dover Center by the Giant Eagle.
