I've been told by an expert that this paperweight is Chinese, and was made in the 1930s. They were made for export, mainly to North America, but turn up all over the world. The basic design, with the two very stylised bird canes, is quite common, but this one is unusual in that it has the Chinese characters within.
It was given to me by my grandfather when I was a child in the 70s, because I was so intrigued by it. I used to look in to it and felt like I was looking into another world.
I would like to know what the chinese characters inside means, so if anyone knows I would be most grateful for information!

Hi Eliza, the 4 characters means World Peace. Hope this helps. George.
Wow George! Is that what it means? I thought it would say something else, it sounds so 1960's :-) or at least post world war II. But that's wonderful! Thankyou!
