I am a police officer and was working a break in. This item was one that was taken. When I returned it, the elderly lady told me to keep the trunk. It is from bloomingdales (see tag). there was an Esso shipping label on it, with no date, but it was shipped to Dallas Texas zone 27. I know the postal service used zones sometime before 1963 but not sure exactly when it was shipped. It was shipped to Texas from Virginia and then brought back as luggage on a train. The trunk is still in it's original condition only missing the lock. According to the owner the key was lost in travel so it needed to removed to get belongings out. I have searched the internet over and over, pretty sure I'm searching wrong but really interested in what it's worth, if anything at all. My wife wants me to get rid of it because it freaks her out and my dog keeps barking at it. I keep telling her know because it may be worth something, hopefully I'm right. If anyone could help that would be great.

Yeah, maybe the trunk is haunted or something! Anyway, I deal in antique trunks as a business and this was probably made in the 1950's by some company like Seward Trunk and Bag in VA, or other companies that made trunks for Bloomingdales. Unfortunately these type trunks usually only sell for about $25 to 50 dollars at flea markets, yard sales, etc. If you're lucky you might get more, but not too likely unless someone worked for Bloomingdales and just really loves it! Good luck with the wife and dog!

Funny thing I have found the exact same trunk and was wondering the worth as well. I was wondering if you found any additional info on this trunk and possibly the real value. Its a really neat piece! Unfortunately mine smells of moth balls and I am not sure how to get that out. Thanks
